Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe
Declaration of State of Emergency
April 7,2020
WHEREAS, as a result of the State of Emergencies declared by the United States of America, the State of North Carolina, and local counties including both Columbus and Bladen in regards to the pandemic of the virus COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, the Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe is dedicated to the safety and well-being of all Tribal Members and the entire Tribal Community; and
WHEREAS, a State of Emergency is imposed to maintain continued good health and secure property.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe declares a State of Emergency with the following:
Restricted Events: The Tribal Council Meetings, the Community Meetings, Election, Activities with more than 10 people, however those with 10 people or less will have to practice the 6 foot social distancing rule, all Drum Circle meetings, all activities or gatherings that may take place on the Tribal Grounds.
Restriction Operations: Tribal Offices are still operating with two (2) staff, the Housing Coordinator and the Housing Assistant. Tribal members may contact these staff by phone (910-655-8778) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The staff will also be working while sheltering in place at home. They can receive emails on any day. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY YOU MAY CONTACT THEM AT 910-625-5502 (BRENDA) AND 910-640-6550 (LESLIE). PLEASE RESPECT THEIR FAMILIES AND CALL ON TUESDAYS OR THURSDAYS IF YOUR CALL IS NOT AN EMERGENCY. Yard maintenance and the garden can be maintained as long as the 6 foot social distancing rule is practiced.
This declaration takes effect immediately on 4/7/2020 and shall remain in effect until modified or rescinded.
